It’s official. All high school spring sports and activities have been canceled for 2020. ASAA made the announcement earlier this week.

The call comes days after Gov. Mike Dunleavy said all schools statewide will be closed to students until at least May 1, as part of the public health mandate concerning COVID-19. ASAA cited safety reasons in their decision. Student-athletes are required to have 10 practices before they are eligible for an ASAA sanctioned event. Regional events had been scheduled across the state during the middle of May. ASAA state events were scheduled in late May and early June.

This impacts sports such as esports, track and field, soccer, baseball and softball; and activities such as all-state art, and solo and ensemble.

Mat-Su Borough School District Superintendent Dr. Monica Goyette announced on Wednesday during the Mat-Su School Board meeting that the district is canceling all student activities through May 31. In addition to sports, this also impacts prom and graduations.
