ASCE announces 2012 scholarship recipients

MAT-SU — The American Society of Civil Engineers Mat-Su Branch has selected Connor Mattson from Wasilla High School and Cecilia Hull from Palmer High School as winners of this year’s ASCE Engineering Scholarships.

Mattson plans to study petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines and Hull plans to study petroleum engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Each year, the ASCE Mat-Su Branch offers a pair of $2,000 scholarships to seniors graduating from high school in the Mat-Su Borough and engineering students at Mat-Su College.

The scholarships are intended to reward students who are interested in pursuing an education and career in engineering of any type and who have shown excellence in their academics, extracurricular activities and community involvement.

Scholarships are made possible by donations from individuals and companies that this year raised $4,850 toward the scholarship fund. Thanks to the following donors: Archie Giddings, DOWL-HKM, Glory Rae Hotko, Hans Hill, Hattenburg Dilley and Linnell, Max Schillinger, Mike Campfield, Peter Curtis, Raven Engineering, RECON, Steiner Design and Construction Services LLC, USKH and Wayne Dyok.
