Aspiring poets wanted for anthology

The Palmer Arts Council plans to publish an anthology of poetry titled “Voices Between Mountains: Echoes of a Discontinuous Present.” This collection will be released in early April as part of the Poetry Month Festival.

Local residents are encouraged to submit original poems . The four themes of the anthology include: 1. Walking the Land — The Wind, The Water, The Wilderness (nature poems); 2. Imagination and Desire — The Road We Traveled (people poems); 3. A Place of Belonging — Coming Home (contemporary musings); and 4. Mountain Horizons — Possibilities & Perspectives (a look at the future).

Joe Nolting, a recently retired longtime Valley educator, heads the anthology project and looks forward to featuring creative work from area residents of all ages and backgrounds. According to Nolting, “This anthology will allow the Arts Council to showcase some of the unique individuals and wonderful creative talent that we have in the Valley. We want to establish Palmer as the poetry Mecca of Alaska.”

Poems may be submitted on-line at: poetry@thepalmerartscouncil.org until March 1. Guidelines and more information are available at the Palmer Arts Council’s website, www.thepalmerartscouncil.org/PAC_Events.
