Palmer High School senior Sean Niekamp has been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student–Athlete of the Week.
Niekamp helped lead the Palmer boys basketball team to the Alaska Prep Shootout title game at Dimond High School in Anchorage last Saturday. In the championship, Niekamp posted a game-high 22 points and a game-best 19 rebounds againsst the Bartlett Golden Bears, a squad ranked No. 2 in the 4A class by the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches.
The senior also collected a team-high 15 points and five rebounds during a overtime win over Cordova in the Shootout semifinals.
Niekamp was named All-Northern Lights Conference last season.
