Attention dog killer

At 6:11 a.m. Tuesday, you hit a dog on the highway by IHOP. You know you did, we saw and heard you do it because we were in the car behind you.

You did not stop, you did not even slow down. Maybe you were late for work. We just wanted to let you know that we did stop and stayed with the dog — in the rain — until Houston Animal Control could come. We wrapped him in a blanket, talked to and petted him knowing he was dying. We called Houston Animal Control later that day, not to get the blanket back, but with hope for good news.

Unfortunately, the injuries were too severe and he was put down. You may tell yourself that it was the owner’s fault because he was a loose dog and all, but accidents do happen in the morning rush, don't they?

By the way, his name was Shadow and he had a collar, owner and a family, but at least the family knows what happened. At least he did not have to go crawling off and die in the ditch alone. My husband got Shadow out of traffic so no people got hurt too. I know it was dark. That stretch of the highway has poor lighting, but did you stop to think it might have been a kid? Just to let you know, we were 90 minutes late to work, but we cared enough to stop. Why didn’t you?
