Attorney general fails his legacy

I am a life-long Democrat, with the addition for a brief time with the Green Party. I say this so that you are forewarned.

As a child growing up in the Matanuska Valley, Dr. Colberg was the man to see for the shot in the rump with the onset of the cold and flu season, he was off and on our family doctor. His wife was my Sunday school teacher.

The off times Dr. and Mrs. Colberg were away on the missionary work in China, bringing a mix of health care and soul saving to their ancient

culture.

[Alaska Attorney General] Talis Colberg, I had expected, would be made of the same cloth, not necessarily my political views, but a man of high courage and strong

convictions, and an exact compass for finding the true path. I fear I have been misled. Talis represents another time and a different party from the Republicans I disagreed with but nevertheless admired.

In those times the GOP stood for proven ability, ethical standards and fair play. They were the party of Lincoln after all. We Democrats were of the ilk of FDR, Truman where the buck stopped and of course JFK. We were movers and shakers, with raw edges, strong appetites

and unleashed enthusiasm for challenging the status quo. What youth would not have been attracted to all that?

So it is with regret that I see the maelstrom has swept up the grandson of my family doctor and soul savior, leaving him twisting in the current, having lost his compass. His grandfather lived by the rule, “Do no harm.” Talis has done harm to himself, his prodigy and his state.

Talis, when you return to us who will you be?
