WASILLA — Wasilla-Fishhook Road was closed Wednesday afternoon following an all-terrain rider’s collision with a church sign near Bridle Path Street.
Alaska State Troopers from the Palmer Post and the Bureau of Highway Patrol responded at 2:51 p.m., Oct. 2 to reports that the driver was unresponsive, according to an AST dispatch. Troopers say their preliminary investigation determined that Carl Bond, 46, lost control while operating his 1983 Honda 200E Big Red three-wheeler at about 45 mph on the pedestrian path northbound on Wasilla and collided with a church sign.
Troopers say Bond’s injuries were life threatening and he was flown by emergency helicopter to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. Due to fog, the helicopter could not fly to Anchorage, but Bond was later transported via ground ambulance to Providence Hospital in Anchorage.
Troopers say Bond was wearing a helmet, though the strap was not secured at the time of the collision, and alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident. Investigation continues.
