Audra Forsgren, 97, passed away on January 15, 2023. She was born 9/5/1925 in Amazonia, MO to Adolph and Corrine Egger. Her family moved to Kansas, Colorado and then Oregon where she graduated from high school in Canby, OR in 1942. She then went to work for the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railroad. Audra met Richard Forsgren in 1946 and they were married in 1947. They had three children. In 1956 Dick was hired by the CAA (now FAA) and they moved to Galena, Alaska. When they arrived in Alaska Audra said “I am home”. They lived in Galena, Cordova, Cape Yakataga, McGrath, Willow, and Wasilla. Audra moved to the Palmer Veterans and Pioneer Home in 2015.
Audra loved collecting rocks, picking berries, beach combing, sewing, all things Iditarod, and most of all painting. She talked about wanting to paint long after macular degeneration took the ability to paint away from her. She also loved her nightly glass of wine.
She is survived by children Keith (Cathy), Connie (Bill), Denise (Doug), grandchildren, Sheri, Kyle, Adrian, Shawna, Michelle, David, and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her “Yukon daughters” from Ruby that called her Mom, DeeDee, Gail, Diane and Rosie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Forsgren.
The family would like to express our appreciation to the many staff at the Palmer Veterans and Pioneer Home for their outstanding care of our mother during her stay there.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Iditarod Trail Committee.
