Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Nancy Groff, 59, died July 27, 2006, of natural causes at her home in Wasilla surrounded by her family.
A viewing will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Valley Funeral Home Wasilla Chapel. The date and time for the service and burial will be announced later.
Pallbearers will be John Groff, Jr., Tim Groff, Ron Oliver, Matthias Sturgeon, Jeffrey Sturgeon and Patrick Anderson.
Nancy was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Kingstree, S.C., and graduated from West High in 1967.
She came to Alaska in 1965 and lived in Anchorage until 1974 when she moved to Wasilla.
She moved back to Anchorage in 1978 and then in 1994 again back to Wasilla, where she lived until she passed.
Nancy had recently reestablished her faith in Christ with love and kindness from Valley Harvest Church. Some of her hobbies included doing crafts and being with her grandchildren.
Her family stated, “Nancy was loved by all who knew her, she was the kind of person who loved to help others even when not needed. She loved to be around animals, as she would say, they are God's special creatures for us to enjoy. She loved children and her only saying for then was, the best gift on earth from God, is children.
“There are no words to express the love she had for all God's gifts that we tend to forget about. She always thanked God for life's beauty and nature's love. She was always there for everyone no matter what it was; she was there to help.
“May her love and blessing she had for everyone never be forgotten. May we remember how blessed we are by the love she shared. May we never forget to share that love with others.”
Mrs. Groff is survived by her father and step-mother, Freddie and Lorane Gause of Kingstree, S.C.; daughters and son-in-laws, Ron and Lena Oliver and Patrick and Katrina Anderson of Wasilla; sons and daughter-in-laws, John and Amey Groff of Anchorage and Timothy and Shannon Groff of Wasilla; grandchildren Matthias and Jeffery Sturgeon, Wayne and Tony Chulin, Amber, Ryan, Seteeva, Timothy and Cheyene Groff, and Brianna Anderson; sisters and brother-in-laws Mike and Grace Wedbee, Jerry and Gladys Rodman and William and Rachel Arnold; other family members, John and Vicki Groff of Wasilla and many more cherished family members and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Molly Bryant Gause, and grandson Dyllan Groff.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations at Mat-Su Valley Federal Credit Union care of Lena Oliver account number 79687ME.
Anyone in the Anchorage area can go to Denali Alaskan to donate.
She will be buried at their own family homestead Angels Peak Memorial.
