MAT-SU — For the first weekend this summer, all three area race tracks are ready for action.
Willow’s Capitol Speedway and Alaska Raceway Park both opened for business last weekend, while the first event of the season will be held Saturday and Sunday at North Star Speedway in Wasilla.
All three tracks will hold races on Saturday and Sunday, while Alaska Raceway Park will also host drag racing on Memorial Day. For more information, visit www.capitolspeedway.org.
Alaska Raceway Park will open its gates at 9 a.m. each day, with racing set for 10 a.m.
Stock and sprint car racing gets started at the dirt track in Willow at 6 p.m. Saturday, while Sunday’s action starts at 2 p.m. Also Sunday, the track will host its first demolition derby of the summer. For more information, visit www.akracewaypark.com.
North Star Speedway’s gates will open at 4 p.m. Saturday, with racing set for 6:30 p.m. The asphalt track will host a full slate of stock car races as part of its weekly series of “GCI Saturday NIght Thunder” events. Then on Sunday, the track will again hold a full contingent of races, with gates open at 1 p.m. and racing at 2 p.m.
