Avalanche skate past Bobcats, post series split

WASILLA - The Alaska Avalanche quickly erased the thought of a Monday loss to the Bismarck Bobcats with a 3-1 victory over their North American Hockey League foes at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena on Tuesday.

The Avs forced the series split with three goals from players hailing from Alaska. Anchorage's J.J. Waldrop gave the Alaska the 1-0 lead on a goal assisted by Willow's Sean Ranum early in the first period.

The Anchorage-Valley connection worked again in the second period when Wasilla's Jeremiah Dargis fed Anchorage native Tyler Currier with a pass that led to a Currier score an an Avs 2-0 lead.

In the third, former South Anchorage standout Kyle Pichler gave the Avs the 3-1 lead. Another Anchorage skater, Alex Young notched an assist on the play.

Alaska goaltender Dusan Sidor earned the win, stopping 38 shots. The Sovakian recorded 16 saves in the third period.

Bismarck skated to a six-goal lead in a 6-2 win over Alaska on Monday. Dargis and Ryan Schmidt scored third-period goals in the loss.
