WASILLA – The Alaska Avalanche could be one night away from making franchise history.
The Avalanche used a 7-3 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena Friday night to move into second place of the North American Hockey League with one night left in the regular season. The Avs are now potentially one night away from clinching home ice advantage for the first time during the organization’s five-year stay in Wasilla.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs, which led the Avs by a point in the standings going into the Friday night schedule of games, suffered a 4-1 loss to Wenatchee and slipped to third in the West. The second-place Avs can now clinch first-round home ice with a win over the Brown Bears or a Fairbanks loss to Wenatchee on Saturday.
All four lines produced, seven different players scored and the Avs peppered the Kenai net with 43 shots during the victory. Alaska scored four times during the first period.
