MAT-SU — Local candidate lists are final after the Friday close of the official filing period in Houston, Palmer, Wasilla and the Mat-Su Borough.
Clerks in those cities and the Borough stopped taking candidate registrations promptly at 5 p.m. Friday. The livliest election promises to be for Wasilla mayor, where there are five candidates seeking the seat. Both people running for Mat-Su Borough Assembly seats are unopposed, along with two unopposed residents seeking two of three available school board seats.
The Wasilla mayor’s race has five people running and Houston City Council has eight people running for four seats. In Houston, Paul Stout and Ralph Buzard are running for re-election. Houston Mayor Sandy McDonald did not file to seek re-election.
