As 2012 president for the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, I would like to thank the sponsors of the New Year's Eve fireworks. This event was made possible through the generosity of BP, MTA, Alaska USA, Northrim Bank, Mat-Su College and Charter College.
Of course, the city of Wasilla also was a valuable asset in preparing the site.
A special thank-you also goes to Gorilla Fireworks for its generous contribution of lower level fireworks, which added a great deal to the fabulous display.
Charter College provided a much-needed warming tent that was put to good use serving hot chocolate, sponsored by Alaska USA, and glow sticks for the kids, sponsored by Northrim Bank.
In my opinion, it was the best fireworks on the lake in years. In fact, I have heard several community members indicate they were going to make this an annual family tradition, and so am I!
The event started at 8 p.m., early enough for families to gather and yet still have time to ring in the New Year with activities later.
We handed out more than 1,000 cups of cocoa and, based on traffic before and after, that means countless community members enjoyed the gathering despite the chilly temperatures.
Thank you, Valley residents, for joining the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors for this annual event, we'll see you next year!
