Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Barbara Glenn Dean Wares, 70, died Nov. 28, 2004, of lung cancer, while surrounded by her family at her home in Sutton.
A service will be held at 4 p.m. today,at Sutton Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Grisham will officiate.
Mrs. Wares was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Jefferson, Okla.
She started her Alaska residency in 1967 in Anchorage, then moved to Chugiak before settling in Sutton in 1970.
Mrs. Wares worked at the El Rancho Caf/ in Elkhart, Kan., Neva's Caf/ in Elkhart and the Frontier Restaurant in Palmer. She was a wife, homemaker and mother.
She enjoyed embroidery, quilting, gardening and her family.
Her family wrote, "She was a loving, compassionate, caring, Christian woman who will be sorely missed by those around her."
Mrs. Wares is survived by her husband, Lester Wares; son, Lonnie Wares; daughters, Deanna Baker, Rose Barickman and Betty Magee; son, Don Wares; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Dorothy Day, Manuel and Judy Day, Glen and Carol Day and Johnnie and Cheri Day; brother, Jimmy Day; sisters, Mary Jo Rick and Shirley Pfeifer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva and Fred Baxter and Bonnie and Oliver Vargas; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Archie Day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations go to Hospice of Mat-Su, 3051 E. Palmer/Wasilla Hwy., Wasilla, AK 99654 or to the American Cancer Society.
