Barbara Ruth Emery (Bobbe) McKechnie, 93, a resident of California Veterans Home in Yountville, Calif., died July 2, 2004 at Holderman Hospital.
Mrs. McKechnie, a third-generation Californian, was the youngest of three girls born to Roy and Bertha Emery in Centerville (now Union City) in July 1910.
Her family said, "A tom-girl by nature, she enjoyed the outdoors and the company of good friends and was good with cars and things mechanical. Everyone who met her sensed the goodness and joy of her spirit."
Raised in the East Bay, she graduated from Richmond High School in 1928. She married Harry D. McKechnie in 1934, raised two children, Lorna and Doug, partnered with her husband in his business and retired with him in 1965 to wander the world for 25 glorious years. Her spirit lives on in the genes of her children and of her grandchildren, Lori Hennigh, Lisa Khajavi and Alia Khajavi.
According to her family, "We all pay homage and give thanks for having known her and celebrate her great good humor, common sense and her empathy for the feelings of others. Flights of angels, Mom."
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the California Veterans Home Chapel on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. Cremation arrangements are being cared for by Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
