ANCHORAGE — The Houston Hawks boys and girls opened play at the Grace Christian Invitational in Anchorage with a pair of losses to Barrow on Thursday.
The defending 3A state champion Barrow girls handed Houston a 59-26 loss Thursday afternoon. Lynete Hep hit 10 shots from the field and scored a game-high 21 points. Hilary Lowery added 18.
Houston senior Savanna James led the Hawks with 17 points. James had five of her team’s eight field goals.
The Barrow boys, who finished third in the 3A state tournament last year, beat Houston 66-55.
Scott Kramer scored a game-high 20 points. Kramer hit seven shots from the floor and was 5 for 9 from the free throw line. Sophomore Matt Barron hit a pair of three-pointers and added 11 points.
