Bartlett defense befuddles Wasilla

WASILLA -- The Bartlett press was just too much for the Wasilla Warriors to handle.

The quick and athletic Golden Bear squad forced 15 Warrior turnovers in the first quarter and jumped out to an early 14-0 lead en route to an 86-59 victory at Wasilla High School on Friday.

The contest was a rematch of the 2003 4A state title game.

Wasilla, who has just one starter from the state runners-up squad -- junior forward Luke Schafer -- faced a squad that still had all-state superstars Doug Hardy and Mario Chalmers.

The duo led Bartlett to leads of 23-2 and 31-7.

Hardy led the Golden Bears with a game-high 23 points.

Wasilla did rebound from the horrid start, scoring 52 of its 59 points in the final three quarters.

Matt Crane scored eight of his team-high 19 points in the second frame.

Schafer added 12 points for the 2-5 Warriors.

Bartlett improved to 4-2.
