PALMER — Wyatt Payne used a two-out single in the top of the seventh to help Houston edge Palmer 4-3 Saturday at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
Kade Taylor scored the go-ahead run for the Hawks. The play capped a rally for Houston, which trailed 2-0 early in the game.
Kolby Taylor and Isaac Smolden finished with two hits each for the Hawks. Payne, Kolby Taylor and Reed Graham also scored runs.
Cade Holland finished 2 for 4 to lead the Moose. Skyler Hale, Damion Bailey and Aaron Christiansen scored one run each.
Wasilla ace sinks Mariners
HOMER — Wasilla senior ace Nolan Monaghan used another strong performance to lead Wasilla to a 6-0 win over Homer Friday in Homer.
The Wasilla lefty allowed only two hits over seven shutout innings. He fanned 12 Mariners.
Jimmy Arend, Ben Werner and Kobe Burns finished with two hits each for Wasilla. Ryan Perkins drove in a pair of runs.
Wasilla followed with a 16-1 drubbing of Kenai in Kenai Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors scored in each of the five innings of the game, including six in the third. Perkins and Taylon Ottinger finished with three RBI each. Werner, Perkins and Forster had two hits each.
Knights hold on in Homer
HOMER — Powered by a quick start, Colony held on to grab a 10-9 Southcentral Conference road win over the Homer Mariners in Homer Saturday.
Colony jumped to an early lead with six runs in the first inning. The Knights had only one hit in the inning, but took advantage of five walks. Homer walked the first three Colony batters in the game, and the first five Knights in the order scored. The stretch included a Cooper Smith RBI single. Smith was one of seven different Knights to finish with a hit in the win. Kolten Ketchum and Trace Severson scored two runs each for Colony.
Colony led 9-2 after the third inning, but had to survive a late Homer push. The Mariners scored twice in the fourth and five times in the sixth.
