Baseball: Warriors, Knights pick up two wins each

WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors buried a pair of Valley rivals earlier this week.

Two nights after posting a 10-0 victory over Palmer, Wasilla clubbed Colony 17-6 Wednesday night at McManus Field in Wasilla.

Three of Wasilla’s top four hitters in the order — Ben Werner, Nolan Monaghan and Jeffrey Forster — scored three runs each. Forster finished 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Monaghan was 3 for 5 with two driven in.

Wasilla’s top-third helped the Warriors jump on the Knights with 12 runs in the first inning.

Hank Boyer also drove in two runs. Monaghan fanned five Knights during two innings of work on the mound.

Wasilla led 15-0 in the second inning, but Colony was able to strike for five runs in the fourth. Cooper Smith led the Knights with three hits and two runs. Zachary Sattetly drove in two runs. Trenton Walters and Trace Severson added two hits each.

Monday, Boyer tossed a two-hitter to lead Wasilla to the 10-0 win over Palmer.

Ryan Perkins finished 3 for 4 for the Warriors, and collected two runs and three RBI. Koby Burns was 2 for 3 with two runs and two driven in. Forester also had two hits.

James Nelson and Cade Holland collected a hit each for the Moose, who allowed a combined nine runs in the final two innings.

Knights blast Moose

Sparked by a 12-run fifth, Colony posted a 13-3 win over Palmer Thursday night in Palmer.

Cooper McLaughlin was one of four Knights to drive in a pair of runs in the win. Trace Severs, Trenton Walters and Frank Urbano also had two RBI each. Severson, Walters, Urbano and Cole Doss scored two runs each.

Joe Ryan earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits over six innings while fanning four.

Jarred Yanez was 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI for the Moose.

Knights get by Hawks

Senior Cooper McLaughlin drove in four runs to lead Colony to a 17-9 win over Houston Monday night.

McLaughlin was 2 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored. Cole Doss and Frank Urbano each tagged a team-high three hits, and drove in three runs. Cooper Smith and Joe Ryan had a pair of hits each for Colony. Isaac Smolden had two hits for Houston. Kade Taylor scored twice for the Hawks.

Bears bounce Moose

Despite allowing only three hits, Palmer dropped a 12-5 loss to Kodiak Wednesday night at the Palmer Senior Field.

The Moose outhit the Bears, but committed six errors in the loss.

Damion Bailey and Hayden Shults finished with two hits each for Palmer. Cade Holland scored two runs for the Moose.
