Basketball roundup: Wasilla girls score home sweep

The Wasilla Warriors used a dominant effort to earn a Northern Lights Conference girls basketball sweep of Kodiak. Wasilla beat Kodiak 63-11 on Saturday at Wasilla High School.

Jazlynn Novelli led Wasilla with 17 points. Harmony McSorley added 13. Bella Hays just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Wasilla beat Kodiak 57-26. Novelli scored 16 points. Hays had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Wasilla boys split a two-game series in Kodiak. Wasilla beat the Bears 34-24 on Saturday. Andrew Devine and Dylan Jeffus had eight points each. Luke Devine added six.

Kodiak scored a 35-24 win over Kodiak Friday. Donnie Lawhead scored seven points.

Moose split at SoHiLavar Marshall scored 21 points to lead the Palmer boys to a 54-46 win over the Soldotna Stars Saturday in Soldotna.

Dae Osiensky added 14 points in the victory.

The Stars posted a 57-40 win over the Moose. Catherine Uschmann led Palmer with 11 points.

Huskies third in BethelThe Redington boys finished third during a tournament in Bethel over the weekend.

The Huskies capped their weekend with a 62-44 win over Kotzebue. Ruben Bond scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Wayde Bowman led Redington with 19.

Bond scored 37 points to lead Redington to a 74-55 boys win over Scammon Bay. Bond hit six three-pointers. Bowman added 13 and Jahzeah Williams chipped in 10. The Bethel boys beat Redington 68-34 on Thursday. Bond, Bowman and Tony Rogers scored 10 each.

Bond and Bowman were named to the all-tournament team.

Kotzebue beat the Redington girls 76-49 Saturday. Lexi Seymore scored 16 for the Huskies.

The Redington girls cruised past Scammon Bay 60-20. Seymore scored 21 points. Abbie Fuller added 17.

The Bethel girls edged the Huskies 46-41. Fuller scored 18 and Seymore added 14.

Colony boys finish seventh in West tourneyAfter a tough start in a stacked tournament, the Colony boys scored a 73-46 win over Juneau-Douglas in the seventh-place game of the Alaska Airlines Classic at West Anchorage High School Saturday.

Patrick McMahon led Colony with 25 points. Colton Spencer added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jeremiah Hersrud finished with eight points and eight assists.

Colony suffered a pair of tough losses during the first two days of the tournament.

East Anchorage’s Damarion Delaney drained a deep three-pointer during the final seconds to stun Colony 50-47 in the consolation semifinals.

Spencer led the Knights with 16 points and six rebounds. McMahon added 15 points and seven boards.

Trinity International, a team from Las Vegas, Nevada, used a 23-point third quarter to grab a 65-58 win over the Knights during the first round.0

Trinity is led by Daishen Nix, an Anchorage native, who is the top high school senior point guard in the country.

Nix, a UCLA commit, scored a game-high 20.

McMahon led the Knights with 19 points and seven rebounds. Hersrud finished with 13 points and six assists.

Grace sweeps HoustonThe Grace Christian Grizzlies swept a pair of games at Houston Saturday.

The Grace girls beat the Hawks 44-29. Emily Bitler led Houston with 16 points and 15 rebounds. The Grace boys got past Houston 65-38. Kyle McLaughlin had 12 points and 11 boards.
