PALMER — The battle between Kodiak junior Trevor Dunbar and Palmer senior Jake Parisien in the finals of the boys’ 3,200 meter highlighted the first day of action at the Region III Track and Field Championships at Palmer High School on Friday.
Both runners shattered the region record in the event, but Dunbar set the new mark clocking an astoundingly fast time of 9 minutes and 10.12 seconds in the race.
Parisien finished with a personal best of 9:12.86 in the race. His time also set a school record.
Colony’s Cody Huggins finished third at 9:58.24.
Colony’s Antone Zagars, Brian Cox and Sierra Hodgson also won region titles. Zagars’ mark of 6-feet earned him a title in the high jump. Cox used a leap of 20-6 1/4 to secure a win in the long jump and Hodgson won the girls long jump with a mark of 15-6 1/2.
The meet continues at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
