On Sunday, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan joined a bipartisan group of colleagues, led by Senator Lindsey Graham (SC) and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin (MD), for a press conference in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he warned Iran not to expand the ongoing war between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.
“Be warned, Iran, be warned,” Senator Sullivan said. “There are so many U.S. Senators on both sides of the aisle who view the terrorist leadership in Iran as the biggest malign threat in this region and in many ways, the world. And we won't stand for you widening the war. We have military assets here and the United States is going to defend its friend and ally.”
The comments come after Senator Sullivan and a bipartisan group of United States Senators as part of a larger trip to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East to show solidarity and support for Israel and speak with officials regarding current political affairs and ensure stability and security in the region.
Members of the bipartisan delegation include U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), Cory Booker (D-New Jersey), Katie Britt (R-Alabama), Ben Cardin (D-Maryland), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chris Coons (D-Delaware), Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island), and John Thune (R-South Dakota).
“The United States and Saudi Arabia have a common interest in preserving the stability, security, and prosperity of the Gulf region and consult closely on a wide range of regional and global issues. Saudi Arabia plays an important role in working toward a peaceful and prosperous future for the region.”
Senator Sullivan is a strong supporter of Israel and has advocated for increased conversation with the United States’ Middle Eastern allies to prevent the worsening of the conflict, especially in regards to the role Iran played in the devastating Hamas terror attacks that took place in Israel just south of Gaza, killing over 1,400 people while Hamas and taking over 200 people as hostages earlier this month.
