DATELINE - Valley Bear lovers should enjoy a new video by bear researcher conservationist and wildlife viewing guide Dr. Stephen Stringham. This Friday evening, March 25, Stringham will present his video at Mat-Su College from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fred and Sara Machetanz Building, room 205.

Can black bears bully grizzlies? Can grizzlies catch beavers? These are a few of the scenes, Stringham has captured on film.

Dr. Stringham will also teach a detailed course, entitled Brown Bears of Alaska, that begins in mid-April. The one-week course is designed for both science and non-science majors but an understanding of entry level biology is recommended.

Stringham holds a Ph. D. in behavioral and population ecology from the University of Tennessee. He began his career as a marine biologist but has been studying bear behavior and aggression since 1969. Stringham's research focuses on the behavioral patterns of bears. He now spends each summer with bears on the Alaska Peninsula.
