Bears snap Wasilla baseball winning streak

KODIAK — The Kodiak Bears snapped Wasilla’s winning streak, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season late last week.

Kodiak edged WHS 4-2 May 22 to become the first team this season to score a win over the Warriors. The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, and added three runs in the fifth. Wasilla tried to rally, plating a pair of runs in the sixth.

Wasilla finished with only two hits in the loss, singles by Tyler Hansen and Matt Thomas. Thomas and Jeffrey Forster scored the Wasilla runs.

Wasilla did rebound the following afternoon and beat Kodiak 8-4. Wasilla broke a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the seventh.

Sam Loyer and Eric McEnnis finished with two hits each. McEnnis drove in a pair of runs. Seven different Warriors scored in the game. Mitchell Chauvin scored two runs.

Wasilla improved to 12-1 with the victory.
