KODIAK — Host Kodiak swept the top spots during a dual meet with the Wasilla Warriors in Kodiak on Friday.
Wasilla placed four runners in the top-6 of the 5,000-meter girls’ race, but Kodiak senior Jaymi Bethea won the event with a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds. Bethea finished five seconds ahead of Wasilla sophomore Jenna Ford, the defending Region III champion.
Freshman Mariah Burroughs (third), sophomore Mandi Ringgenberg (fourth) and junior Jessica Pahkala (sixth) also finished in the top-6 for the Warriors.
Senior Cori Schleich (eighth) also finished in the top-10 for the Wasilla girls.
Junior Noah Ripley was the top Wasilla runner in the boys’ race, finishing fourth with a time of 17:20. Junior Simon Fischer (sixth), junior Josh Pahkala (seventh) and junior Keith Thompson (ninth) also finished in the top 10.
This race provided one final competitive tune-up for the Warriors, who will compete in the Region III Championships in Soldotna on Saturday.
