To the editor:
Well, Mark Begich did it again. By it, I mean lied.
He stated that he supports transparency at the Federal Reserve, yet he voted against the Vitter amendment. For those of you who haven’t been following this, Mark voted to audit the TARP money. The Vitter amendment would have allowed Congress to audit every shady deal the Fed is involved in: Goldman Sachs, foreign central banks, foreign governments (including millions sent to Saddam Hussein in the 1980s) etc. But no, Mark voted to keep these shady deals secret.
Let’s turn this around. How about if the IRS audits me, I let them look at one and only one check that I wrote (the TARP funds)? Could I get away with calling that complying with an audit? That seems to be good enough for the Federal Reserve, according to Begich.
How dare the senator claim he supports transparency. This vote will haunt you for the rest of your useless (and hopefully short) political career. Remember Mark, you were almost beaten by a convicted felon — sigh … almost.
