To the editor —
My family supports Sen. Begich for re-election because he fights for hard-working Alaska families like ours.
To start, Mark Begich has been pushing to make sure everyone has fair wages — he introduced a bill in the Senate to raise the federal minimum wage and he supports the state’s initiative to raise Alaska’s minimum wage. He understands that with rising inflation, the current minimum wage just doesn’t cut it. And he supports protecting unions’ collective bargaining rights so they have the tools to secure better wages and safe working conditions for all their employees.
Mark Begich also has helped create thousands of construction jobs in Alaska by bringing back over $3 billion for Alaskan highway and bridge projects. Plus, he jumpstarted development to drill oil in NPR-A, which has already created jobs for many Alaskans.
Mark Begich also cares about taking care of retired Alaskans who’ve worked hard all their lives by not only protecting Social Security but actually introducing legislation to expand benefits.
Coming from a family of police officers and firefighters, nurses and educators, I feel strongly that we must re-elect Mark Begich — a Senator who has proven he will fight for working-class families, families who dedicate their careers to serving their communities.
I do hope Alaskans will see through the opponent whose financial support is coming from outside interests.
