I wish Begich would spend less time on attacking Dunleavy’s budget plan and more time on what his plan is. But better yet, let’s look at what happened when Begich was responsible for the budget when he was mayor of Anchorage. Facts not hype.
Google ADN 8-20-09 and 9-23-09 and 9-20-10 and look at the $17 million dollar budget deficit Anchorage and the new mayor Dan Sullivan was left with when Begich left office. Criminal; no. Highly questionable and unethical; yes. An independent investigator said “Begich failed to practice prudent fiscal management. Dan Sullivan said it was “irresponsible and Anchorage was dealing with the repercussions now,”
and he “violated municipal code.” Begich also was accused by an assembly person of conspiring with the city’s chief financial officer to conceal what they knew about the state of the city’s finances and of not providing accurate information to assembly members.
Is this who we want managing our state finances? He alone was responsible for the total fiscal mismanagement of the MOA budget and we cannot put him in charge of the State of Alaska budget. We cannot afford four more years of poor leadership of Alaska being last in every category that makes a state great. Don’t listen to the negative ads; read the facts and vote for Dunleavy.
