As an educator, I have seen far too many competent young men and women complete their high school education without even the hope of considering the pursuit of a college degree or technical training due to the high cost alone.
Current economic realities, together with an erosion of financial programs, e.g,. grants, loans, and scholarships, both public and private, have made it increasingly difficult for many, and in some cases impossible for some students and their families to invest in higher education.
The lack of these programs is directly correlated with decreasing enrollment in higher education institutions across the county. Particularly hard hit are the families with two working parents who desire higher education for their children, but cannot afford to financially support or assist them.
As a senator for Alaska, Mark Begich would be a solid advocate for our young people and their families who want to pursue higher education. He has pledged to restore hope to these Alaska students and their families by sponsoring and supporting legislation that would provide the financial vehicles and opportunities for these students and families to invest in their future, Alaska’s future.
Mark Begich is the education candidate for U.S. Senate.
