Wasilla resident Bertren R. Curry III died at his home Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, of kidney failure due to complications of diabetes. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla on Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. with Father Kaspar officiating.
Mr. Curry was born Oct. 4, 1955, in Palmer and was a Wasilla resident. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
Bert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla. His interests included all sports, mountain climbing, hiking, bike riding, cross-country skiing, snow machining, sky diving, coin collecting, stamp collecting and he loved to play chess.
His family remembers him as, "A gentle man with a great sense of humor, a bright person, good athlete, very competitive and ready for new challenges who was loved and will be missed by all who knew him."
Mr. Curry is survived by his parents Bertren and Mary Curry Jr. of Wasilla; his brothers, Michael Curry of Juneau, David Curry of Wasilla and John Curry of Juneau; and by his sisters Deborah Curry-Power of Anchorage and Susan Curry of Wasilla. He is also survived by his grandmother, Lucille Curry of Anchorage; aunts and uncles, Larry and Anne Curry, Steve and Polly Curry of Anchorage, Charlotte and Jim Thomas of Ajo, Ariz., Harold and Lorraine McGrath of San Bernardino, Calif.; and by many nieces and nephews throughout Alaska, Texas, Arizona and other parts of the United States.
