Come down to the Palmer Depot and help us celebrate the ‘Toast of the Town’ Best of the Valley awards. There will be food and a cash bar (a taco bar with a nacho cheese fountain). The businesses and individuals who received the top votes in eight overall categories will be acknowledged with a special award. A special Thank You to our title sponsor Mat-Su Regional Hospital. Their impact on the community is one reason the ‘Valley’ is the Best of Alaska.

MTA’s Red Carpet

Doors open at 6 p.m. Walk the red carpet sponsored by MTA. You and your friends will be the stars of the night when our paparazzi takes your photo on the red carpet. Choose from a variety of “Toast of the Town” props. A complimentary 5-by-7 glossy will be your keepsake from the evening. Thank you! MTA for all you do for our community.

Edie Grunwald

Our 2017 Person of the Year is Edie Grunwald. We acknowledged her in the Frontiersman in December of 2017. This is will be a new tradition for the Frontiersman. We selected Edie because of her response after the tragic loss of her son David. Edie and her husband Ben picked themselves up from a devastating life altering event to emerge as community leaders. I’m looking forward to her acceptance speech as we recognize her publicly for this award.

The Mayors will be there

Palmer mayor Edna Devries and Wasilla Mayor Bert Cottle will each address the audience with their unique view of what makes the Mat-Su Valley stand out as the best community in Alaska. The two core communities are so diverse but work together to make the Valley the fastest growing community in the State.

Sen. Shelley Hughes keynote speaker

Our Keynote speaker will be Sen. Shelley Hughes. Voted by our readers as the Valley’s best politician. During Hughes’ time as a atate senator she has dealt with her diagnoses of breast cancer with unbelievable strength and dignity. Hughes’ keynote address will be uplifting and will demonstrate why our readers have awarded her the Best of the Valley.
