Better communication needed between schools and parents

To the editor:

I would like to thank Janice Norman for her letter to you in regards to the school boards decisions with our families. I would like you to know that at the elementary level, even they don't send information home. If they do, it's a week later.

With issues like this, starting school early, putting our children into different schools due to zoning, etc…, the school district should be sending us this information by mail, directly to us, the parents. They could try to send a note home with the kids informing us we will be receiving something in the mail, but good luck. Like any kid, if you don't check their backpack yourself as soon as they walk in the door, you can kiss that note goodbye.

We never saw a survey either about school starting earlier. I never heard about it until last week when I read the article about Mr. [Carl] Gatto not being happy about the decision.
