December 18, 1958 - February 22, 2026 Betty Jean Magee (Wares) of Sutton, Alaska, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. She was born on December 18, 1958, in Elkhart, Kansas. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Eddy” Magee; her father, Lester Wares; her mother, Barbara Day; and her sister, Rose Barickman. In 1967, Betty moved to Alaska with her parents and siblings, where she grew up and attended Palmer High School. She married Eddy in October 1984. The couple briefly lived in California before returning to Alaska, where Betty spent the remainder of her life. Betty was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She cherished time with her loved ones and found great joy in playing poker, visiting with friends and family, and watching her grandchildren grow into young adults. She also enjoyed gardening and was known as a collector of many things, always finding meaning and memories in the items she gathered over the years. She is survived by her three sons: Tristan (Edana) Magee, Edward (Rachel) Magee, and Jacob (Megan) Magee; her sister, Deana Baker; her brothers, Lonnie Wares and Don Wares; twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Alpine Inn in Sutton, Alaska.
