BIG LAKE — A collision with a pole proved fatal for an Anchorage snowmachiner Sunday.
According to a press release from Alaska State Troopers, Mark R. Forbes, 53, of Anchorage, was northbound on a 2008 Bombardier snowmachine on the bike path adjacent to Big Lake Road when, at about mile 3.5, he hit a 4-inch galvanized pole. The crash was reported to authorities just before 2:20 a.m.
Troopers say first responders found Forbes unresponsive. CPR was not successful and Forbes was pronounced dead.
Troopers say he was wearing a helmet at the time and that they are investigating the crash.
