PALMER — Cody Wynn Glenn, 20, of Big Lake, was arrested on assault in the first degree Wednesday for allegedly shooting his older brother after troopers responded to a 911 call on Round Table Drive in Houston.

Police reports say the call was placed by Glenn’s mother, Kristi Glenn, who informed them her son had shot his older brother Zane Ragsdale.

Ragsdale was transported via helicopter to Providence Medical Center. The police report said the bullet entered through his lower abdomen and lodged in his buttocks.

Upon questioning witnesses, police determined the incident began with a dispute over money.

Kristi Glenn said Cody had taken $400 from Zane two days earlier. She told police she’d previously kicked Cody and his girlfriend out of her house because she “didn’t need to have pill-poppers” in her house.

She said Cody had come back to gather his things and that he wanted a ‘sub-woofer’ that was in his brother’s car. Kristi Glenn said she wasn’t going to ‘do that today’ and that she and Zane should just call it even for the $400 Cody allegedly took from Zane.

Kristi Glenn said she didn’t hear any arguing, and the next thing she heard was the ‘pop’ of Zane being shot.

Cody’s girlfriend said she was standing outside the house when Cody came out and told her he’d shot Zane, according to police reports, and that she should leave, but not before tossing the gun onto the floor of the passenger’s side. She later hid the gun because she didn’t know if it was stolen’ and didn’t want it in the car with her child, according to police. Police say the .38 Derringer was recovered from the hidden location she described.

When he spoke to police, Cody Glenn said allegations that he had taken the $400 from his brother were not true and said that he only shot Zane because he was coming down the stairs quickly and he feared for his safety.

The report says Cody Glenn told police his brother came running down the stairs at him, which caused him fear because his brother could ‘easily overpower’ him. Cody said he didn’t have the gun out at that point, but when Zane came closer he pulled it out. Cody told police that Zane then said, “I dare you”, and came at him again. According to the report, Cody Glenn told police he thought he’d aimed the gun down and meant to hit the ground with the bullet.

“I shot him, but I didn’t mean to,” Cody Glenn is quoted in the report as saying to police.

At 4:30 p.m., just over three hours after the 911 call, Cody Glenn was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held without bail, pending arraignment.

At arraignment, Glenn was charged with Assault in the First Degree - Recklessly Causing Serious Physical Injury to Family Member with a Gun and released on $10,000 cash performance with a court-appointed third party.

He was ordered to have no contact with his brother Zane or his girlfriend, and was not to possess any firearms.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
