GLENN HIGHWAY — A rush-hour traffic accident on the Glenn Highway delayed Valley-bound commuters for more than three hours Wednesday evening.
According to the Anchorage Police Department, a semi-tractor rig jackknifed near the Fort Richardson exit at approximately 3:52 p.m. No one was injured in the accident, which caused the temporary closure of all northbound lanes of the highway just as thousands of workers began heading for home.
Police were able to partially open the highway shortly after the accident, but all lanes weren’t clear until approximately 8 p.m.
With the main artery out of the city blocked, traffic snarled on Anchorage surface streets connecting to the highway as crews worked to clear the road.
Adding to the difficult commute were icy conditions that slowed drivers from Anchorage to the intersection of the Glenn and Parks Highways.
