Big Sky Rodeo action rides hard and fast at Four Corners

MAT-SU — Alaska Big Sky Rodeo presented another weekend of exciting rodeo action Saturday and Sunday night near Four Corners — just southwest of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Trunk Road intersection.

Big Sky runs a two-day program where points accumulated from Saturday night carry over into Sunday's action to determine a winner of the overall event.

Scooter Hackett proved he could ride bulls and bucking broncos by not only winning the bull riding event, but also took first place in the saddle bronc competition.

Kathy Sullivan won the barrel-racing event.

Barrel-racing is a competition where woman and horse must work as one to navigate three barrels spread out in the arena in the fastest time.

The team of Dick Moriarty and Ginna Moomey won the ribbon-roping event.

Shawn Rutherford and Mark Vance teamed up to take top honors in double mugging.

The double mugging competion calls for one person to rope a calf that is running into the arena and another person to bring it down and tie three legs together in the fastest time.

Dan Voth not only won the calf-roping event but also teamed up with Shawn Rutherford to take first place in the team-roping event.

Big Sky Rodeo regularly puts on a full slate of rodeo action in the Valley during the summer.

The next rodeo event will be the Big Sky Rodeo Finals at the Alaska State Fair Sep. 1-2, starting at 4 p.m. both days.

The kids take their turn at rodeo action in the Li'l Wranglers Rodeo Sep. 3 at 1 p.m. in the grandstand of the state fair. Admission is free.
