To the editor:
I live on KGB and purchased a home here because of the close proximity to the asphalt bike path. However, after two years of using the bike path, I am compelled to write and bring attention to the rude, dangerous ATV riders and motorcyclists who continually break the law and ride down the asphalt bike path, even when bicyclists and walkers are using it. The signs you are speeding by say “No Motorized Vehicles,” which would indicate you are breaking the law and are liable should you, or your minor child, hit a cyclist, walker, leashed pet or horseback rider.
Non-motorized users have the right-of-way. You may drive your motorized vehicle on the other side of the road, where it is appropriate for dirt bikes and off-road vehicles. And please, slow down. My own son owns a dirt bike and uses it on the other side of the road.
If you don’t care about other people’s safety, then at least be fearful of a criminal and civil lawsuit, in which you will be held responsible financially.
WPD and AST, thank you. I have seen the police stop and ticket two different ATV drivers on the bike path. Please continue to send the message that these rude, unsafe drivers will be ticketed.
