Bikes-for-Books event returns to Mat-Su schools

PALMER — The Matanuska Foundation, sponsored by the Matanuska Masonic Lodge in Palmer, is conducting its Bikes-for-Books program at Swanson, Sherrod, Butte, Sutton, Pioneer Peak and Finger Lake elementary schools.

Bikes-for-Books complements schools’ regular reading programs by providing one girls bicycle and one boys bike to schools to be given away to students selected by the school.

The Matanuska Masonic Foundation also will provide bike helmets and locks for each bicycle to be awarded in the spring. Funding comes from donations from members of the lodge and the community at large.
