To the Editor:
Governor Parnell has introduced legislation, HB110 and SB49 Production Tax on Oil and Gas. This legislation would reduce the oil companies’ taxes by billions of dollars a year, supposedly to incentivize them to produce more oil. This legislation doesn’t require oil companies to do anything to receive much of the billions of dollars. The oil companies have testified before the Legislature that they are not going to commit to doing anything even if they get the extra billions of dollars.
This is like giving a contractor money to build a house, even though the contractor won’t commit to building the house. You would very likely be just giving away your money. I seriously doubt that neither Governor Parnell nor the legislators supporting this legislation would give a contractor money to build a house if the contractor isn’t willing to commit to build the house.
This legislation doesn’t look like it’s for the good of the people, but more like corruption is back in Juneau again.
