February is Black History Month, and in honor of this, Black Birch Books in Wasilla is hosting a conversation with Tolani Finley this week.
Finley, a Black Alaskan, will be sharing her lived experiences navigating identity, culture, and community in Alaska. The event offers a chance to engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering empathy and understanding about Black life in the Last Frontier.
“Come together with us to build awareness, connection, and a stronger sense of community,” says Black Birch Books owner Taylor Jordan.
Additionally, the store has a display dedicated to Black authors, including noted astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, New York Times bestselling author Octavia E. Butler, and even young aspiring local author Hayden Write.
“Literature allows us to see where we’ve been, understand where we are, and shape where we’re going.”
“Conversations of Roots and Resilience: Black in Alaska” will be held this Thursday, February 27 at Black Birch Books at 5:00 p.m. All are invited to attend and engage in conversation.
