Blessed Boasting Part 2

Thus says Yehovah, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am Yehovah who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares Yehovah (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

God tells us not to boast in our wisdom, works or wealth but encourages us to boast in our knowledge of Him. Can the mind of man truly know God? Not in our flesh. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares Yehovah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We may know God because He is eager to reveal Himself to us. God desires to give us eyes to see, ears to hear and minds to understand Him (Deuteronomy 29:4).

We understand God by studying the scriptures, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Each member of the Trinity participates in teaching us to understand and know Yehovah. Our Father says, “I am Yehovah your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you in the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17). Job proclaimed, “Who teaches like Him?” (Job 36:22)

Jesus taught His disciples that He, the Messiah, was sent to be their one teacher and their one instructor (Matthew 23:8-10). He demonstrated this after His resurrection on the road to Emaus, “he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). Further “Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:17).

Finally, the Holy Spirit indwells us, teaching us. Jesus said it was good that He was returning to the Father because then, “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things” (John 14:26). Paul prayed that believers would receive “the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of God” (Ephesians 1:17).

This is important because “no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:11)

An obstacle to man’s pursuit of knowing Yehovah, is the god of this world, “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Believers are not blinded, instead we are told, “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).

We must know and understand God so we can fulfill our commission to “make disciples of all nations...teaching them to observe all that I have commanded” (Matthew 28:19-20). We must also pray that blinded eyes will see the living God.
