Blizzard blow past Avalanche

WASILLA — Alexandria skated to a 5-3 win over the Alaska Avalanche on Friday at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena.

Larry Kincaid, a local product, had a busy night in his return to Wasilla. The former Alaska forward and Houston High School standout scored the first goal of a game and received 15 minutes worth of penalties after a second-period fight with Alaska forward Alex Rasmussen. After the scuffle, Kincaid was given a five-minute major for fighting and 10-minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct. Rasmussen received a five-minute major for fighting.

Alexandria scored three unanswered goals in the third period to come from behind and beat the Avs.

Alaska had built a 3-2 advantage — thanks to goals by Tyler Currier, Alex Young and Michael McCurtian — and took that lead into the middle of the third period.

On Saturday, Alexandria skated to a 6-2 win over Alaska.

Kincaid led the Blizzard with a goal and an assist.

After this weekend, Alaska has only four games left on the regular season schedule. The Avs travel to Fairbanks to face the Ice Dogs at the Big Dipper Ice Arena on March 14-15 and March 21-22.
