WASILLA — A short investigation early Christmas morning netted Alaska State Troopers a pair of arrestees, a set of nunchucks and one switchblade.
According to a press release, at 2:21 a.m. troopers got word of suspicious activity on Lucus Road. On scene, they contacted Ricky Cunningham, 45, and Tessa Bear, both of Wasilla.
Bear was arrested on a warrant with original charges of theft and drug misconduct, but troopers added more charges to that list.
The nunchucks and switchblade were allegedly hers. That, plus the fact she allegedly gave them a fake name added up to a false information charge and two weapons misconduct charges. Her bail was set at $7,000.
Cunningham didn’t have any charges until he allegedly tried to keep troopers from arresting Bear. He picked up a hindering prosecution charge and $2,000 for his trouble. Both were jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. As of Wednesday Bear was still incarcerated but Cunningham had been released on his own recognizance.
PALMER — Troopers say they had to use a police dog to track down a man who was in two crashes on Trunk Road Sunday, and the first crash was a rollover.
According to a trooper press release, the second crash was reported at 10 p.m., Dec. 23 near Trunk Road and Tern Drive.
“While en route, troopers were notified that one of the drivers had fled the crash scene,” troopers report.
Troopers called in their search dog, K9 Roelle, and found the driver a short distance from the crash scene. He had to be hospitalized in Anchorage for injuries from the crash but also from exposure.
“Witnesses on scene reported the driver who fled had also rolled his vehicle farther north on Trunk Road but when it came to rest on all four tires, took off again southbound on Trunk Road,” the press release says.
Troopers report that everyone in the second vehicle had injuries minor enough to be treated on scene.
“Alcohol appears to be a major factor in this collision,” troopers say.
WASILLA — Police report that a woman returning home wound up with a free crowbar after she walked in on a burglar.
According to a Wasilla Police Department press release, the burglary was at an apartment on Kalli Circle on Dec. 16 and was reported at 9:39 p.m.
“The resident reported that when she arrived home she heard someone running out the back door of the apartment. Inside she found some of her property in a box by the back door and a crowbar that did not belong to her.
Police are investigating.
WASILLA — A man accused of trying to murder his girlfriend during a protracted domestic violence dispute was picked up on a warrant Sunday.
Jeramie Sharp, 35, of Wasilla, had been wanted on a warrant for attempted murder and assault.
The murder charges relate to a fight in September during which he is alleged to have pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend. The gun went off during the dispute but missed the woman, who had shoved the barrel to the side.
At the time charges were filed, troopers had not yet arrested Sharp. Court records seem to indicate he remained on the lamb until he was arrested Sunday. His first court appearance was Monday.
Sharp was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $103,000 bail and would need to find a third party to watch him if he manages to raise that much bail money.
