Alaska State Troopers continue an investigation into the death of a 66-year-old Anchorage man found with his snowmachine west of Big Lake Tuesday afternoon. Danny Maroney had been reported missing Tuesday morning.

According to an online dispatch from troopers, Maroney's body was found on his snowmachine near the confluence of the Yentna and Susitna rivers approximately 25 miles west-northwest of Big Lake early Tuesday afternoon. Troopers state they received a report of a missing person in the Deshka Landing area around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. They were informed Maroney left for his cabin near Skwentna Monday morning and was supposed to return that night.

Troopers launched Helo 3 out of Anchorage and responded to the area. Approximately two hours later, troopers onboard located a stationary snowmachine and rider matching Maroney's description, according to the report. Troopers confirmed the found person was deceased and positively identified the body which was recovered by helicopter and transported to Wasilla.

The State Medical Examiner's Office was notified and responded to the scene to take possession of the remains for autopsy. Next of kin was notified and no foul play is suspected.
