WASILLA — The Alaska State Troopers said Monday the body of a woman missing since last week from the Millers Reach area was found Sunday in the Little Susitna River.

Diana Pittser, 56, disappeared from her home on Dec. 29. Pittser was last seen going for a walk near the Little Susitna River at around 8 p.m. that night. A spokesperson for the Mat-Su Borough said Pittser's body was recovered by dive teams Sunday afternoon.

Pittser's body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's office to determine a cause of death.

Michelle Kowalski, who is engaged to Pittser's son, posted on Facebook Sunday that Pittser had been found dead.

"It saddens our hearts to have to share such new with you all. Today we share with you Diana Pittser has passed. She was found this afternoon in the little su," Kowalski wrote.

She thanked the searchers who scoured the area for days in hopes Pittser would be found safe.

"We can't say thank you enough to all of you that helped us along the way."
