PALMER — Road work involving water mains for the neighborhoods surrounding the Bogard Road Extension project will close Arctic Avenue, one of several road closures slated for this summer.
Palmer officials have seized the opportunity of a borough-managed road construction project to expand water service to several neighborhoods in the area. However, closures for the water main improvement areas will occur on a timetable set by the borough.
Portions of Arctic Avenue will be closed to through traffic June 15.
Arctic Avenue and the Palmer Pool will be closed June 22 and 23, as a result of water main extensions to the pool.
Arctic will close again June 29, according to borough spokeswoman Patty Sullivan.
The project is one of several slated for the borough core area. The extension of Mack Road from its current terminus near the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Complex to Knik-Goose Bay Road continues, according to Wasilla city officials. Road workers have recently completed the installation of a large culvert.
Flag service at the opposite end of Mack – near the intersection with the Parks Highway — was set to resume Friday after a full closure of the road at the end of the week, according to state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities officials.
