The Palmer Public Library is offering two unique courses on repairing books on April 17.
"Basic Health Care for Books" covers the economics of repair, consideration before doing repairs and basic book construction. The second half features basic repair and a hands-on practice of the repairs. The workshops are taught by Phil Rumpel.
"We're trying to get the word out to people like nonprofits, churches and other organizations so they'll know how to maintain their book collections over time," said Candy Kopperud of the Palmer Public Library.
Each person gets a basic supply kit to keep.
There are two sessions -- one from 9 a.m. to noon and another from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Each session is limited to 10 people, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The registration fee is $10.
Kopperud said a grant is helping cover much of the cost of the classes.
Wal-Mart and Friends of the Palmer Public Library are also sponsoring the event.
