WASILLA — Mat-Su Borough school officials cancelled school at every school in the district except Glacier View on Tuesday, Nov. 24 after warming temperatures turned many Valley roads to ice.
The announcement was made just before 5 a.m. via the district's website and social media. In its announcement, the district said it was uncertain school buses could navigate the slick roads safely.
State officials also issued several advisories for both the Parks and Glenn Highway, warning motorists of icy conditions. Recent snows last week were followed by a dramatic warm-up on Tuesday, which caused many snow-covered roads to become glazed over. Authorities urged anyone traveling on the slick roads to use extreme caution.
